Common misconceptions about the Porsche Taycan

Rising concerns about air pollution have made many people start to consider their means of travel more carefully. Despite electric vehicles being on the road for over a decade, it is only in more recent years that they have begun to be viewed as mainstream.

A lot of speculation has been made around the electric car industry, which has ultimately made drivers wary of the transition from petrol or diesel to electric. It is time to dispel those myths for good. Here are the four most common myths about electric cars.

1. “Electric cars have a short driving range.”

The Porsche Taycan offers the option of two battery packs, both of which deliver an extensive driving range. The Porsche Taycan’s base Battery has a gross capacity of 79.2 kWh and can travel a generous 200+ miles, this is fitted as standard on the Taycan and the Taycan 4S. Porsche also offer a Performance Battery Plus (standard in the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S), which has a gross capacity of 93.4 kWh with a real-world range of 220-280 miles, allowing effortless coverage and minimal charging worries.

If this does not fully satisfy your range anxiety, the Porsche Taycan has a regenerative braking function. This allows the Taycan Turbo S to generate up to 290kW of electric power during braking, which equates to roughly 700 meters for 2 seconds of braking. This recuperation function is capable of increasing the range by up to 30%, bringing the benefits of needing to charge a little less frequently and generating power through renewable means.

2. “There is limited charging infrastructure and charging takes too long.”

In the UK, there are more electric charging stations than petrol stations.

In 2023, there were a staggering 44,40 charging points across over 25,000 locations. These locations are integrated into the My Porsche App, which gives you access to over 360,000 publicly accessible charging stations across Europe, making the experience hassle-free and flexible.

If you enter a DC fast charging station as a destination into the navigation, all Taycan models will precondition the battery to the optimal temperature for charging, allowing the battery to reach maximum efficiency. It takes approximately 30 minutes to charge the battery from 5% to 80%, which is roughly the time it takes for a coffee break.

3. “They are not environmentally friendly.”

Electric cars decrease their environmental impact over time and are generally considered more environmentally friendly than regular internal combustion vehicles (ICE) on the road. This is because they have zero tailpipe emissions, meaning no pollutants are emitted during operation. Electric motors are also considered more efficient than internal combustion vehicles, with much of their fuel being wasted in the form of heat energy rather than motion.

In addition, the production of the all-electric Porsche Taycan has been CO2 neutral since its launch in 2019, ensuring that the impact of producing the electric car is counteracted.

Other methods previously mentioned, such as regenerative braking, as well as battery preservation within the Taycan models, assist in making a sustainability contribution by providing a source of renewable energy and ensuring the battery maintains a long operating life.

4. “They are boring to drive.”

There is nothing boring about driving a Porsche Taycan.

The Taycan is the electrified soul of Porsche. It remains a high-performance sports car with incredible handling and acceleration, as expected from Porsche. The acceleration from 0-62 mph varies between 2.8-5.4 seconds, depending on the model, and the launch control feature provides an added boost, ultimately delivering a truly thrilling driving experience.

Whilst the Taycan doesn’t have the familiar purr of a conventional engine, it instead offers a completely unique experience. The hum of the Taycan presents a new emotional voice, a futuristic sound that raises the hairs on your arms and leaves a smile on your face.

There is also nothing boring about the beauty this car possesses. The sleek yet timeless body is in keeping with all Porsche car models, making it unmistakably Porsche. Both the gorgeous exteriors and interiors never fail to deliver pure luxury.
